Wilson House is no longer open to the public, please do not ask to view.
Wilson House is a Warkworth landmark, however it is a private home again, so please do not disturb the residents. Built in the Italianate style in 1904, it was the first reinforced concrete house built in New Zealand using Portland cement manufactured at the former Wilson's cement plant close by.
Although currently not available for sale, interested parties may contact us by phone 07 315 7257, please do not disturb the residents.
When the Wilson Company's original manufacturing plant was closed in 1926 all the Wilson family and workers moved away from the area. After the great depression, WW2 and many years of neglect, the house was finally abandoned in the mid 1960's and left to further deteriorate until 1980, when the restoration project began.
You may still view our range of tapestries on the woven tapestries page- see menu, or ring us on 07 315 7257 to discuss your requirements. Tapestries are our passion and we enjoy sourcing that special something you may have in mind for your home.
Although we have moved away, do still visit Warkworth, the heart of the Matakana Wine Country. Vineyards are open daily to taste the local ‘drop'! The extensive coastline close by offers a number of experiences from cafes, restaurants, galleries, horse riding on the beach, glass bottom boat trips, swimming, fishing etc. - something for everyone!
